On Grid Systems
If your house is already connected to the electricity grid, you can install an electricity producing PV array with
grid inverter to generate some of your own electricity. The renewable energy generated from the (PV) array
is converted into AC by the inverter and connected to the household electricity distribution board.
Any surplus power from the PV array that is not consumed in the home, is fed back into the local electricity
grid and can be credited against your electricity account.

Off Grid Systems
If your home does not have an electricity connection, you can produce your own power via a renewable
energy source (PV) to generate power which is then stored in a power storage device ie batteries.
An inverter/ charger is used to both charge the storage device and also to convert the DC power into
an AC grid-equivalent electricity source.

Backup Systems
A Backup System is used to supply power when power supply fails.
Power is generated by the PV and used by the consumers or stored in the batteries.
If the local electricity grid fails, the backup system automatically disconnects from it
and then supplies power to the consumers from the storage batteries.
When this occurs the system is operating like an Off Grid system until the local electricity
grid is repaired. The automatic switch box responds when the grid is repaired and switches back
to normal operating mode. A backup system maintains your electricity supply when
the local electricity grid fails
